Works of Radical Imagination

Today, March 17th, begins this year's Trans Rights Read-a-thon! Started by journalist and speculative fiction author Sim Kern, Trans Rights Read-a-thon is an annual initiative for readers and book lovers to celebrate trans literature in the weeks leading up to Trans Day of Visibility on March 31st.  It's a great initiative that's super easy to join: to participate, all you have to do is prioritize reading, reviewing, or otherwise uplifting books written by and/or featuring trans, non-binary, or otherwise gender non-conforming people. During this time, participants are also very much encouraged to donate to trans organizations to the best of their abilities.

Below, we've pulled together a selection of books written by trans and non-binary authors, books about trans politics and trans liberation, and books that otherwise seem just perfect for a Trans Rights Read-a-thon.

From the official Trans Rights Read-a-thon website:

How Does the Read-a-thon Work?
During the two weeks of the readathon (March 17-31), read trans* books and donate to trans* organizations. This is a decentralized fundraiser, so how you participate is up to you. You can read 1 book or 20 books. You can donate to a large organization or a personal GoFundMe.

For more information, including a list of suggested organizations for donations, visit the official website for Trans Rights Read-a-thonYou can also follow them on Instagram and TikTok at @transrightsreadathon, and at @trreadathon on Twitter, and use #transrightsreadathon and #TRR26 when you post.
