Teaching history fully and honestly is a vitally important foundation for building a strong democracy, most particularly today, when people are flooded with disinformation from social media and a range of other sources. Join us for Teaching Honest History on Thursday, November 21 at Old South Meeting House, which will feature vibrant discussion and book signing with Lindsay Chervinsky and Barbara McQuade, two noted and dynamic scholars, commentators, and best-selling authors.

Dr. Chervinsky is an award-winning presidential historian who frequently appears on the pages of the Wall Street JournalMs. MagazineThe Daily BeastThe BulwarkTime MagazineUSA Today, and The Washington Post. Her new book, Making the Presidency: John Adams and the Precedents That Forged the Republic, was published in September.

Ms. McQuade, a legal scholar and regular analyst on MSNBC and other platforms, recently published Attack from Within: How Disinformation Is Sabotaging America, an urgent and comprehensive look at the ways disinformation is seeping into all facets of our society and a set of real, accessible solutions for countering disinformation and maintaining the rule of law.

This event is the centerpiece of the James Otis Lecture Series, which is sponsored by the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).  The series is intended to inspire students across the nation with a greater respect for the Constitution by organizing dynamic public programs that examine law and history related to the American experience.

All members of the public are warmly invited to join this event, which is free and open to all. We will also be giving out 100 FREE copies of both Chervinsky’s Making the Presidency as well as McQuade’s Attack from Within, and the authors will be available for a book signing after the event. Please note, we will have an additional number of books available, but cannot guarantee copies of both books to all walk-in attendees.

Doors will open at 12:30 pm and the program will begin at 1:00 pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Teaching Honest History is made possible by the generous support of both the James Otis Lecture Series and The Lowell Institute.
