Works of Radical Imagination

Remember when journalism and cultural criticism provided a valued, stable career—when writers could be paid to say what they please, free from management's meddling, and be paid a living wage for it? Neither do we. But that doesn’t mean we can’t fight for journalists’ labor rights today and in the future.

Recently, management at the Village Voice has been working to break down the union of Voice writers. Management proposals include: eliminating contractual obligations to offer quality health care, abandoning all commitments to diversity in hiring, slashing parental leave and child care provisions, and significantly reducing sick leave.

With that in mind, we’d like to invite you all the Village Voice Union Benefit Party this Wednesday June 14, at 9:30PM at the lovely Metrograph theater, to support Voice workers as they fight back against reactionary management! They'll be screening the 1957 lefty musical, The Pajama GameAlso, drinks at the bar! Tickets are $15, and all proceeds to go the Voice strike-benefit fund. You can donate directly to the strike fund here. Hope to see you out there on Wednesday!
