Deborah Shnookal has a PhD in history. She co-founded Ocean Press with David Deutschmann in 1989. She is the author and editor of several books, including co-editing the José Martí Reader and the Fidel Castro Reader. Her most recent book is Operation Pedro Pan and the Exodus of Cuba’s Children (published by the University Press of Florida, 2020). She is currently a research fellow at the University of Melbourne.
